Schools and young people
The Heritage Education Service www.newcastlecommunityheritage.org offers a wide range of curriculum based visits and projects using the Valley's natural and historic features, including the Victoria Tunnel. Its staff can also help with higher education queries about the valley’s current regeneration activities. The Service is based in Ouseburn Farm’s spacious new education and training centre.
In the heart of the Valley, Seven Stories www.sevenstories.org.uk and Stepney Bank Stables www.stepneybankstables.co.uk both provide schools programmes.
On Stoddart Street, Mobex www.mobexnortheast.org.uk specialises in team building, problem solving, outdoor and arts activities for young people aged 18 – 24.
On the arts front, Northern Print www.northernprint.org.uk offers opportunities for schools to learn many different printing techniques in its purpose built facilities. Many of the artists based at Ouseburn Warehouse studios at 36 Lime Street www.36limestreet.co.uk work with children and schools and can be contacted through the website.
Adult and informal learning
Heritage
The Ouseburn Trust www.ouseburntrust.org.uk holds an archive of old photographs and documents in its Resource Centre on Lime Street. You can also pick up a free walking trail leaflet through the Valley and information about the Valley’s regeneration. Its Heritage Group runs free walks and talks open to everyone but generally suitable for adults.
The Newcastle Community Heritage Project www.newcastlecommunityheritage.org has a stock of Ouseburn Heritage magazines, Picture Box Guides and other heritage publications. Personal callers will find samples in the Ouseburn Trust Resource Centre and Ouseburn Farm.
Arts and crafts
Northern Print www.northernprint.org.uk runs printmaking classes on a regular basis.
Other artists who offer learning opportunities in a range of specialist mediums can be found through the Ouseburn Warehouse studios at 36 Lime Street www.36limestreet.co.uk and Mushroom Works www.mushroomworks.com.
Physical
Phoenix International Academy of Martial Arts (tel.0191 261 0001) runs a variety of courses for adults and children from their airy premises at 51a Lime Street.
Stepney Bank Stables www.stepneybankstables.co.uk offers riding lessons for adults and children, using its indoor riding area and the open areas in the vicinity.
