There are plenty of spots where you can enjoy some fresh air in Ouseburn. Up on the City Stadium there are sports pitches and children’s playgrounds. A walk through the woodland to the south of the Stadium brings you down towards Lime Street and the Village Green, which becomes a lively gathering place on summer evenings.
Across the footbridge by Ouseburn Farm, a riverside walkway takes you past brightly painted boats, and you can find another kick-about pitch and place to sit on Ballast Hills, as well as an intriguing collection of old gravestones.
From the mouth of the Ouseburn you can walk back along to Newcastle’s Quayside in about 15 minutes, taking in the fine views as you go.
If you’re traveling by bike, you can join up with the Hadrian’s Way Cycle Route and head west towards Newcastle’s Quayside or east towards the coast. A mixture of on and off-road routes run through the Valley and across to the city centre, or north towards Heaton Park and Jesmond Dene.
The Ouseburn Trust Heritage Group runs a number of guided walks through the summer as well as producing a self-guided walk leaflet. Visit their website for further details.

The Lower Ouseburn Valley is also well connected to some of the most attractive green spaces in the city. Just north of City Stadium you’ll find the picturesque Heaton and Armstrong Parks, which connect with the stunning wooded valley of Jesmond Dene, creating a green corridor that is about 2 miles long.
